{"id":1101,"date":"2011-03-18T22:33:50","date_gmt":"2011-03-19T05:33:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mcclanahoochie.com\/blog\/?p=1101"},"modified":"2015-04-26T20:50:05","modified_gmt":"2015-04-27T03:50:05","slug":"1366x768-sucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcclanahoochie.com\/blog\/2011\/03\/1366x768-sucks\/","title":{"rendered":"Stupid 1366&#215;768"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it seems laptop LCDs are all going from 16:10 aspect ratio to 16:9, to match the HDTV standard format.\u00a0The most popular 16:9 HD resolution, 1366 x 768, has taken over the laptop market and taken away precious vertical space on almost every new laptop LCD screen!\u00a0I&#8217;m sure 16:9 is really\u00a0convenient\u00a0for watching for movies, but\u00a0I don&#8217;t watch movies, ever &#8211; especially on my laptop!<\/p>\n<p>1366&#215;768 sucks because it is too short for any useful work, and not wide enough for 2 windows side by side.\u00a0I do a lot of programming and development on my laptop, so having\u00a0less vertical screen space just is not practical, and means more vertical scrolling.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the HD marketing hype, 1366 x 768 is the new standard.\u00a0This is really annoying since I&#8217;d personally like more vertical space. I can&#8217;t seem to find a decent <em>thin<\/em> and <em>portable<\/em> notebook to replace my current dying one (made in 2006!) &#8211; and I <em>refuse<\/em> to settle for anthying less than 900 vertical pixels!<\/p>\n<p>My current [dying] 14&#8243; laptop&#8230; \u00a0 \u00a01400 x 900 | 16:10 | \u00a01.24 MP<br \/>\nAny new 15&#8243; or less laptop&#8230; \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a01366 x 768 \u00a0| 16:9 \u00a0 | \u00a01.00 MP<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not the only one, nor the first one, to complain about this&#8230;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/hardware.slashdot.org\/story\/10\/10\/06\/1522206\/Why-Are-We-Losing-Vertical-Pixels\" target=\"_blank\">Why are we losing vertical pixels?<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bandb.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/vertical-pixels-are-disappearing.html\">Vertical pixels are disappearing<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/forum.notebookreview.com\/hp-envy-hdx\/515435-why-does-everyone-hate-1366x768-screen-3.html#post6685596\">Why does everyone hate 1366&#215;768 screen?<\/a> *<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/xkcd.com\/732\/\">Obligatory xkcd<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/news\/widescreen-notebook-lcd-screen-display,7659.html\">Say Goodbye to 16:10 Notebook Displays<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t really use Windows much, but for some perspective: this fancy &#8220;HD&#8221; resolution is barely above Windows 7&#8217;s bare minimum screen resolution of 1024&#215;768!
